Title: Sixty-Nine
Characters/Pairings: Lex Luthor/Superdictionary 'verse. Yes, really.
Wordcount: 937
Rating: Adult, largely for potential squick.
Summary: Lex Luthor's sixty-ninth birthday party! Written in response to the
fortycakes Superdictionary Challenge #15, Birthday.
A/N: Lex debuted Action Comics #23, cover-dated April 1940, which makes him sixty-nine this year. But the birthday guests and setting for this fic are Superdictionary era (circa 1970s) rather than modern.
It is Lex Luthor's birthday! It is exactly sixty-nine years since Lex Luthor first appeared in the comics! That is as many as twenty-three threes, which is a lot of years!

From LC at LJ: I made a list of 30 people. Ask me questions about them!
(Example: "How did 1 and 13 get trapped in a cave together, and how does 7 get them out?")

So. In a fic that may be the fic I'm writing for
lgbtfest or may not be, Steve Rogers tells Jan Pym (Wasp, married to Hank at the time) that he is gay.
[And that he is dating Sam Wilson, because this is ME, but this is not really necessary information for the purposes of this question.]
Jan takes him clothes shopping, because what else do you do with your newly-discovered gay friend, after all?
My question for you all, because I know nothing about fashion: what do they buy? I am hoping for something appropriately hideous and 1970s, because that's when said fic is set (I mean, roughly 1970s--it's comics so I'm not worrying too much about anachronisms), but FASHIONABLY hideous and seventies, you know. Because it's Jan, and even though she's mostly dressed by comics artists who appear to know slightly less about fashion that I do, she is, in theory, a fashion designer.
Ideas, please? Pictures would be even better!

So for TNT & Danny the Dyna-Mite related reasons, I was reading the old Super Friends comic (not to be confused with the new one, which I've also been reading and has super pets this week. And also Ch'p. It's pretty amazing, but that's not the one I have a scan from).
Nope, it's the classic version. TERRIBLE THINGS happen when Aquaman and Zan get together, guys:
( Who SAYS Zan's not as useful as his sister (in the shape of a quetzalcoatlus, not shown)? )
Yeah. I thought you all needed to see that.
ETA: The cut tag got lost when it was reposted here and to IJ. Huh.

Last Wednesday I read the entirety of the webcomic Digger, which
odditycollector told me is brilliant, and it is for all the reasons she described. It took me a few pages to get into--she tried to get me to read it ages ago, and I got bored on, like, page two.
I'm a little bit at loose ends, media-wise. I haven't been quite up to my stacks of back issues, and last week I watched the entire second season of Spectacular Spider-Man which was a lot of fun. Osborns! Also, crazy ass high school romantic drama, which is not usually my thing, but pretty enjoyable here. It's not quite a replacement for the on-hiatus Brave and the Bold, but it was something.
And now it's ALL GONE and I don't have a cartoon. :(
But! I've been reading All Star Companion vol. 3 which has a bunch of miscelaneous articles, mostly on Silver Age and Bronze Age JSA and Earth-2 stuff. And an article featuring Roy Thomas's fanfic, which, <3333333333333333333333333 ROY. Seriously, he's the most ADORABLE PROFESSIONAL FANBOY EVER.
Oh, and speaking of Roy Thomas' fanfic, he's got some more coming out tomorrow: here's the preview for his Sub-Mariner Comics 70th Anniversary Special. *is excited!*
(Which makes sense for the Sub-Mariner at least. They put out a CAPTAIN AMERICA 70th Anniversary Special two weeks ago, which, guys, wait until 2011! The character's only 68!)
And of especial interest to
unloveablehands: one of the articles in the All-Star Companion mentioned some Silver Age appearances of TNT and Danny the Dyna-Mite that I don't think we knew about. Super Friends 12 and Superman Family 190, which present versions of the characters different from the Young All-Stars ones. Which is to say, TNT isn't dead. (Different earths and all that.) Check 'em out!

No more Batman: Brave and the Bold until May 1.
BUT the new episode is going to have Black Canary and Huntress! FINALLY THERE WILL BE WOMEN IN MY SHOW.
People, why is it not May?!

I'm tired and headachey and, well, I want some frivolous entertainment that involves the option of killing fictional characters.
So how about some cliff, marry, shag! As defined on
sister_wolf's LJ over the weekend:
Give me three characters, and I will tell you (with pics, even) which of them I would marry, shag, or throw off a cliff.

Because why not!
Ask any character I've written for advice, and they will provide it, advice columnist style. Your problems or fictional characters' problems both welcome. Management is not responsible for the results of following said advice (especially if provided by Ollie).

So it's been the Quarter From Hell in terms of my schooling (and work for that matter), which is why I've been absent since, uh, late January. I've been either busy, sick (in a minor sort of way--cold/headache/tired, all that good stuff), or brainlessly procrastinating (by reading porn elsewhere in the internet, frequently--I just haven't been up to much that's interactive/requires a brain) so I've not so much been *here*.
(I've been on twitter a little more, but frankly--after NYCC anyway--not all that much there either. Tired, braindead, busy Caia!)
BUT. Things are SO SO CLOSE to being done. Friday the quarter will be ALL OVER and I will have a break until, uh, Monday March 30. (#%#* YOU, school schedule. I so need more than a week to get over all this shit.)
HOWEVER. I have so many exciting plans! Posts! Commentary on the whole Racefail imbroglio, well, really, commentary on being a white girl who's MADLY IN LOVE with a CoC and has been quietly been reading as much as she has time/energy for in the hopes of getting tips. Because I figure I should get through that before posting my LGBTfest fic about Said CoC. (For people who have been living under rocks and/or have forgotten who I am over the last month in a half--FALCON, guys.)
New York Comic Con! Which was more than a month ago, and I have scans of sketches and things to share. And, you know, experiences, if I can remember them. (It was AWESOME, but I came home sick and the next several weeks were kind of hell. See above.)
Comments on the various comics I've read since then.
And...probably several other things I'm forgetting. Damn, it's going to be a busy break.

This one's been going around for awhile, and it took me most of that time to come up with all the descriptions:
Pick up to 15 OTPs.
Describe them in 15 words or less.
Have your flist guess the OTP.
1.The adorable true love of a chipmunk and a pickle. Ch'p/Salakk aka Salaak, guessed by
rayshell22, who can't spell Ch'p, and
harmonyangel, who can't remember either of their names...
2.He went to California for his man and it was all downhill from there. Guy/Hal, guessed by
mari_redstar.
3.Going to Qward in his jacket on the back of his motorcycle! Guy/Lobo, guessed by
poisonivory.
4.Nothing says "I love you" like a resurrection. Hal/Ollie, guessed by
harmonyangel.
5.Fifth dimensional fanboys. Bat-Mite/Mr. Mxyzptlk, guessed by
ilyena_sylph and
bats_eye.
6.Carrying him up the stairs is fun, but what's really kinky is vanilla. Barda/Scott Free, guessed by
mari_redstar.
7. "Guess I'm just a freak of nature. Want to go to the dance?"
8.It's alllllll about the nicknames. Well, and fighting Nazis. Namor/Original Human Torch, guessed by
bats_eye.
9.You can tell it's true love when you start building robots in your sleep. Brainiac 5/Supergirl, guessed by
mari_redstar.
10.Cross-universal bonding with someone who *understands* what it's like herding metahumans. Nick Fury/Amanda Waller, guessed by
harmonyangel.
11. The cranky teacher and the eeevil principal.
12.When this relationship went badly, somehow Harry Osborne got attacked. Cap/Falc, guessed by
harmonyangel.
13.Because dark and broody clearly needs bright, funny, and flexible. Plastic Man/Batman, guessed by
odditycollector.
14. True love is being someone's umbrella in the rain and hammock at night. Is not actually Ralph/Sue, but
lilacsigil gets partial credit anyway, because they totally got left out of the meme unjustly.
15. You don't know how you felt until she's gone. Then you sleep with her boyfriend.

So I got 15 Steps Forward for Yuletide, which is a wonderful post-"Snowbirds Don't Fly" [the Roy on heroin plotline] fic that does a better job than about anything I've ever seen of accounting for the aftermath of that. Mostly from Ollie's POV; he's *trying*, the poor clueless dear ♥. (Notable things about Caia, for those who didn't know me very well in my full-on GL/GA phase: I love Ollie even when he's being stupid. Sometimes especially.) Also Hal/Ollie, just to make it additionally dear to my heart. Written by
perpet_fic, who I do not know but possibly should!
I myself wrote two fics for Yuletide. For my assignment, I wrote Two in Extremis for
imaginaryalice, which is Carol 'n' Tony bodymerge action-adventure fic. Those of you who IM with me can remember my flip-out when the inevitable happened and, having unwisely offered "any" for Avengers/New Avengers, I got Carol Danvers and Tony Stark. I'm...mostly pleased with how it turned out, I guess, although I feel it could be better. Comics and comic fic aren't very good training for writing fight scenes--the latter because you don't *get* many, the former because it's all in pictures rather than words. It's an art I'd like to learn more of, though.
Thanks so much to anyone I was IMing in December for putting up for me, to
harmonyangel and
second_batgirl for pressing
imaginaryalice for details, and to
mizzmarvel for last-minute beta.
And then there's the Yuletide treat I wrote for
harmonyangel, Dinner With Bernie, which is just what it says on the tin: Bernie Rosenthal takes Steve Rogers [Captain America, in case anyone around here is still confused] out to dinner. I'm probably on the whole more pleased by how that one turned out, because it was less ambitious, even if I *did* write it on airplanes and in airports on Christmas eve and talk
second_batgirl into betaing late that evening. Bernie was fun to write!

Hey, all,
Tomorrow morning, early, I'm going to be leaving town and going to see family. I should have a pretty good net connection, but I can't really guarantee it; and in any case I'll be distracted! So if I don't respond to my Yuletide fic promptly and/or vanish from the face of the planet...it's not you, it's my family.
...actually, the really traumatic thing about all this is that I'll be missing all the yummy comics tomorrow, and then it'll be Jan 4 before I get back to an actual shop. 50s Cap is getting his own special! Which may or may not be any good--I'm a little nervous about Chaykin, because I mostly remember him for the really dreadful Guy Gardner two-issue mini with dark!G'nort, but the preview is mostly encouraging. And FIFTIES CAP!--I am possibly more fond of him than I should be, all things considered.
Also there will be Hellcat--it feels like *ages* since the last issue--and Nova, and a bunch of other stuff. COMICS. Oh, and Rage of the Red Lanterns, which I am pretty "Whatever, Geoff," about. I'm enjoying the GL:Corps plot with Zamarons, though, because at least there is *history*, there, you know? *cranky old fangirl* That and a Guardian and a Zamaron having a "just fuck already!" argument is surprisingly cute. If you're me.
Happy Holidays for all, and here's hoping you're getting some time off and having some fun! And good comics. :)
